El nombre Whisky, en gaélico quiere decir Uisge Beatha, que traducido al español, agua de vida La primera gran producción de whisky se obtuvo en Escocia, hacia el año 1494, cuando el fraile Juan Cor logró un volumen equivalente a más de 1400 litros del preciado néctar. Su consumo comenzó como un antídoto contra la pena, con el tiempo se transformó en un acto de alegría y el brindis se puso de moda. Por sus propiedades reanimantes casi mágicas, o por su puro y especial sabor y aroma, este preciado elixir recorrió un largo camino. Fue recién en el ecuador del siglo XIX cuando los escoceses comenzaron a mezclar whisky de malta con whisky de grano, más liviano y barato. Este punto representa una evolución fundamental hacia los distintos tipos de whisky blended y single malt, siendo la variedad casi ilimitada. Actualmente, los distintos tipos de whisky se identifican por la zona en la que es elaborado y su tipo de proceso de elaboración.
