Magna Vides

Old vines, of the size of a man. The interpretation more natural and honest work in the vineyard, to get what she expresses, agile and lively, real and authentic wines.

Magna Vides is a dream of Pablo Arranz and Andrea Sanz, who begins to walk and take shape in the year 2005. In 1999 becomes his hands the first family plot, with a wonderful vineyard planted 80 years earlier.

Its philosophy of life is based on a dream: a life dedicated to the field, to take care of the vineyard of their ancestors and make a wine excellent, consistent with his way of seeing life.

In 2009 they acquire some plots in the municipality of Quintana del Pidio, in a same Valley but with different orientation, always looking to the South. They are also restoring a medieval underground cellar from the 12th century, where their wines under the ground.

The Magna Vides living philosophy is based on a dream: begin a life in the countryside, take care of the vineyard of our ancestors and make a wine excellent, consistent with our way of looking at life.

Soils

Magna Vides vineyards sit in a sandy soil on a North slope. Large strains, magnas vines and small trees, overlooking the Gromejon river.

Soils of these vineyards are diverses, it is not common to have a uniform plot. Funds are clayey and calcareous, which maintains a freshness in the soil and plants naturally. Surfaces are sand, boulders, soft clay and limestone.

Vineyard

Magna Vides have acquired a ranch along the many terms from the village of La Aguilera, in the Ribera del Duero Burgalesa. About 11 hectares of vines in the places called El Sardal, El Hoyo de la Abuela, Sotillejo, La Fuente del Pez, Las Matillas, Majadas Verdes and Las Peñas. All the vineyards in this town are between 70 and 110 years old. These are a series of vineyards that have been planting little by little. We call them La Carrancha, El Sardal del nogal, El Carrascal and La Andalesa, with a total of 6.4 hectares. These vineyards are a selection of wood of his best old vines, the more balanced, with small, loose, clusters drawn from the poorest soils. That is what they want to play in our new vineyards. Using little vigorous rootstocks, and even in some arenal planted ungrafted.

Viticulture

Under an ecological viticulture, they care a vineyard with traditional training in glass. A thorough pruning in dry, clean, understanding to the plant and its needs. Detailed green pruning. Deshojados, thinning and desnietados throughout the summer, looking for ventilation in the strain inside, aeration of clusters, and the quality of the fruit. They intervene as little as possible in terms of treatments, seeking balance between fungi and insects, in order to enhance the most varied fauna, flora and fungi; a biodiversity abundant so adjust itself.

Grapes

With special attention to the Tinta fina o Tempranillo, they cultivate other varieties acclimated as greater la Albillo Mayor, Bobal, Garnacha Blanca, Garnacha Tintorera, Garnacha común, Pirulesa, Alarije, and at least three varieties that are waiting to identify.
