Pazo de La Cuesta, the oldest winery in Galicia, has been intimately linked to the vineyard since at least 1608, the year in which the bequest of the house, the chapel, the cellars, and the vineyards to Captain Don Álvaro de Losada y Somoza is documented.
After five centuries of Galician winemaking tradition, Pazo de La Cuesta stands in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra, next to the mountains of the Courel Geopark, and with the unique microclimate that makes its vineyard one of a kind. Pazo de La Cuesta faces the challenge of recovering the spirit of excellence of a historic vineyard that is a living heritage of Galicia.
The average age of the vines is 40 years, and they are preserved on just under one hectare of the estate, including pre-phylloxera vines over 150 years old. The vineyard is divided into 11 distinct plots, each defined by grape variety, age, orientation, altitude, and soil type.
They produce their white and red wines using their own grapes, including indigenous varieties such as Godello, Treixadura, Albariño, Loureira, Mencía, Garnacha Tintorera, Brancellao, Sousón, Merenzao, and Caiño Tinto, among others.
