La Mar 2021

White Wine made mainly from Caiño blanco, a variety that has a great capacity to extract the best characteristics of its terroir. A wine where you can appreciate the shale, the proximity of the sea and the mild climate of the O Rosal valley, revealing itself in perceptible earthy aromas, of broken rock, with visible saline, iodized nuances.

BODEGAS TERRAS GAUDA

Bodegas Terras Gauda

The philosophy of Terras Gauda is to develop and produce unique wines with their own particular identity that conform to our high standard of quality.

From the wine revolution that emerged in Galicia following the establishment in 1980 of the D.O. Rías Baixas, José María Fonseca, current president, began to see things clearly in the world of wine, and from his position on the Board, managed and supported the development of viticulture and enology courses, plus a series of related partnerships in the art of winemaking.

With the initiative of the private sector and following the foundation of Viñedos do Rosal S.A. and Adegas das Eiras S.A., the dream of the Founders was realized with the establishment of the O Rosal wines. The winery’s philosophy was that Albariño, being such a noble variety, could benefit greatly from a union with other native varieties to provide it with subtle new qualities and so further enhance the already strong reputation of O Rosal wines.

In 1990 the winery was founded and the produce of local grape-growers was used to make 37,000 bottles of Terras Gauda ‘90, our first year’s production, at the same time as we started to plant our own vineyards, with a clear view towards safeguarding the identity of O Rosal wine.

Bodegas Terras Gauda has made advances in research and development while also distribution both nationally and internationally. Currently we sell 1.5 million bottles of wine in over 50 countries.

Location

Bodegas Terras Gauda is located in the extreme southwest of the province of Pontevedra, in the O Rosal valley, bordering Portugal. Our vineyards are situated in a privileged landscape close to the mouth of the Miño River.

We produce white wines with noble varieties within the Denomination of Origin Rías Baixas, one of five D.O of Galicia.

The D.O Rías Baixas currently has more than 200 wineries, of which Bodegas Terras Gauda, as a private company, is number one in volume in of sales and production.

Vineyard

The vineyards are in a privileged position in the O Rosal valley, near the mouth of the River Miño, close to A Guarda, bordering Portugal, in the extreme south of the Pontevedra province.

They are situated between 50 and 150 metres above sea level, arising from ancient river terraces and consisting of slate (metamorphic schist), which brings mineral notes to our wines and is unique in the granite predominant soil in the D.O. Rías Baixas.

Our vineyards bask in an exceptional microclimate characterized by gentle temperatures, with an annual average of 15⁰C, scarce frost and abundant rainfall.

This microclimate is ideal for ripening, with a high sugar content and lower acidity than that of other areas in the north of the D.O. Rías Baixas, which suffer higher weather fluctuation.

Around the winery we have 87 hectares of vines, which together with our land in the O Condado subzone and the plantations of our partners, gives us 160 hectares of vineyards.
