D.O. Calificada Priorat

La Denominación de Origen Calificada Priorat es una pequeña región montañosa situada en la provincia de Tarragona. El macizo de la sierra de Montsant la delimita por el norte, en poniente se encuentra la sierra de La Figuera, por levante la sierra de Molló y, por el sur, el territorio se abre siguiendo el curso del río Siurana aguas abajo hacia el Ebro. El río Siurana y sus afluentes son la arteria geográfica principal de la zona, y provocan una serie de valles y pequeñas planicies gracias también a la sinuosidad geológica de las sierras y vertientes montañosas. De acuerdo con la legislación de Cataluña relativa a la división administrativa regional, el territorio de la DOCa Priorat queda dentro de una delimitación administrativa más extensa conocida como "Comarca del Priorat", que tiene también una parte de territorio que no forma parte del Priorat vitivinícola.

Localización

La Denominación de Origen Calificada Priorat tiene una superficie de 17.629 hectáreas, de las cuales 1.887 estan plantadas con vid y cultivadas por más de 600 viticultores. Administrativamente, forman parte de la DOCa Priorat 9 municipios.

Suelos

La zona de producción de la Denominación de Origen Calificada Priorat se caracteriza geológicamente por suelos con predominio de pizarras carboníferas, llamadas llicorelles, con afloramientosde rocas hipogénicas, en estratos muy inclinados que constituyen un conjunto de montañas de fuerte desnivel, pedregosas, sin valles ni llanuras intercaladas, por lo que el cultivo de la viña se hace difícil y costoso y la producción es baja, pero adaptada perfectamente a estas condiciones.

Clima

El relativo aislamiento respecto a la influencia del mar y, a la vez, la protección que ofrece la sierra de Montsant a los vientos fríos del norte, confieren a la zona de la DOCa Priorat unas condiciones climáticas bien peculiares, marcadas sobre todo por las notables oscilaciones térmicas entre el día y la noche.

De acuerdo con el reconocimiento de denominación de origen calificada, las bodegas dedican todo su esfuerzo, año a año, a la producción de vino y a la obtención de un producto de máxima calidad y garantía, con el objetivo de que cada uno de estos vinos pueda ser capaz de transmitir un pedazo de esta tierra a través de su tipicidad, claramente definida por su terruño.
